Latest News: As of 3/31/05, the event website is gone, blank. This was supposed to be a new, full-sized stage race that would immediately become the premier event in North America. In January the organizers postponed the event indefinitely, citing their reluctance to ask for the necessary sponsorship support in light of the recent humanitarian tragedy in South Asia. Call me insensitive, but this seems a little fishy. Granted it's a big race, but the total event budget must be miniscule in comparison to the massive amount of aid that is being contributed world-wide for the relief effort in South Asia. They've had a title sponsor on-board for quite awhile already plus whatever additional sponsorship they had already lined up, so how much more did they need raise in the next eight months anyway? This seems like either an over-reaction on their part or a convenient excuse to cover up some other problem. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm guessing we'll not hear of this event again. |
