About this website

Annoyance is a great motivator for me and I was annoyed because I couldn't find a website with an easily-browsed calendar of the major road racing events in North America with links to each event website. Each association, federation, or series organization puts out their own calendar, but these don't mention anybody else's events and often don't include links. There are other event calendars out there, but most of them don't distinguish between the major and minor events.

The web is a wonderful thing because I could take my annoyance and remedy the situation to my own satisfaction, and hopefully that of others as well. I formulated this collection of pages starting with the 2005 racing season with the goal of selecting the major events (a somewhat subjective process) and providing general information including a website link for each one. The foundation of the calendar is the combined schedule of the NRC and North American UCI events. I'll add selected events from the Canadian calendar as well as those of other organizations such as FIAC and the ACCS. If the calendar grows too long, I'll reverse the process and start weeding out some of the lesser events.

I've continued to add additional information, including standings for the NRC and my own North American ratings which are based on the NRC points system. I've also added links to the major team websites. My sources are comprised mostly of publicly available information. If you find an error, have some inside information on a race, or if you object to the inclusion or exclusion of a race, feel free to let me know via email.

Event Types

A brief explanation of the "Type" values I've assigned to each race:

  • Stage Race - A multi-day event with at least two road races
  • Weekend Series - A multi-day event with only one road race. I just don't think these deserve to be called Stage Races.
  • Road Race - A single road race
  • Criterium - A single (or occasionally more than one) criterium
  • Hill Climb - A hill climb!

Ten Longest-Running Events

Here are the ten longest-running events on the calendar. The promoters of these races deserve lots of credit for sticking with it for so many years. The large number of high-quality races which have blossomed and then faded in recent years is testimony to how hard it is to make a race endure for as long as these have.
